7ngt Islands Of The Western Med Voyage
Your voyage begins before you even step onboard in Barcelona, a dynamic city worth exploring, before embarking on your Azamara golf adventure. We set our first sights on sophisticated Palma de Mallorca where you’ll hit the greens at Son Gual or stroll the beautiful seaside promenade late into the evening, watching the sun dip into the Mediterranean.
Thanks to Azamara’s smaller ships, we sail down the canal into the striking city of Mahon, Menorca. Head to the beach and sip pomada-a drink of local gin mixed with lemon soda. Next stop, a late night in Ajaccio, Corsica, home of Napoleon and a treasure trove of historic sites and Renaissance art. On the island of Sardinia, we dock in Olbia or “happy town,” where you can play Pevero, another jewel in the Jones crown of courses. A late stay allows time to discover the Museo Archeologico di Olbia, with artifacts from Roman warships and exhibits dating to the 8th century BC.
Next, we cruise to Corsica and the fashionable French resort town of Porto Vecchio. Golf the Robert Trent Jones-designed Spérone course (with coastal holes said to rival Pebble Beach and Cypress Point). In Portoferraio, on Elba, visiting Napoleon’s villas (he was exiled here for a decade) and taking a cable car to the top of scenic Mount Capanne. After docking in Rome (Civitavecchia), walk in the steps of gladiators at the Coliseum, channel your inner statesman at the Forum, or gaze up in wonder at Michelangelo’s masterwork at St. Peter’s Basilica. Catching the staggering sights of the Eternal City is the perfect way for your voyage to end.
